We are a Church of England church seeking to inspire London with the good news of Jesus Christ. Our aim is not so much to be a great church as to be part of building a great city as the gospel transforms and renews all of London in all aspects of life.
London is one of the most diverse cities in the world with over 300 languages spoken in its schools and people from very different social backgrounds often living right next door to each other. However, this diversity often leads to a very fragmented city with studies showing that London is one of the most socially and economically segregated cities in Europe. We seek to be a church that represents this diversity but lives out a deep unity in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:18-19).
Our vision is not so much to be a great church as to see London being a great city. We want to see the good news about Jesus Christ inspiring all aspects of London life: from work to leisure, from family life to London’s communities, from the arts to sport (Romans 12:1). We believe that the gospel saves people and gives them a vision for what life lived well to the glory of God looks like, a life that starts now and continues into eternity.
The gospel (lit. good news) is not just the way in to the Christian life it is the way on (Colossians 2:6-7). Christianity is about coming to know Jesus Christ, his forgiveness and grace, and growing in a relationship with him. Inspire Saint James Clerkenwell is not founded primarily on a doctrine or set of beliefs but the person Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:28). He is the great hope for every individual and for this city.
