The Porch Area. Above the steps to the left is the memorial plaque of Bishop Gilbert Burnett, the Scottish historian and philosopher, Bishop of Salisbury, and friend of William III, who wrote the ‘History of the Reformation of the Church of England’. He is buried beneath the table in the nave - the main hall of the building.
Above this memorial is a plaque devoted to Henry Penton whose son Henry Penton the Younger gave his name to Pentonville, an area just north of Clerkenwell. Penton was also buried here. The contents of the crypt where originally people had been interred, were reinterred under the long walk behind the building when the crypt was renovated.
